RACE INFORMATION 

 

DATE & TIME:  The race will be held on August 9, 2014 so mark your calendars.  Start time is 8:00 am sharp!

LOCATION:  Race start is in Georgetown, next to Georgetown Lake on the frontage road.  The race finishes in Idaho Springs at 12th and Miner St.  The post race celebration is in Clear Creek football field in Idaho Spings, there are a number of exits along I-70 where your fans can view the race.

BUS TRANSPORTATION:  Bus Transportation will be provided from Clear Creek Middle/High School, the baseball field in Idaho Springs, and in front of the Clear Creek School District Offices on Hwy 103 just south of exit 240 off I70. Arrive early, and expect traffic congestion. Buses will start running at 5:30 am.  The last bus will leave at 6:45 am.  If you miss the bus, you will need to get directly to the start in Georgetown. 

Transportation will be available back to Georgetown and back to CCMS/HS after the race between 10:30 - 12:30.  Buses going back will leave from in front of the Clear Creek School District Office, a short walk from the post race party.

PARKING:  Parking in Idaho Springs:

at Clear Creek School District Administration Bldg just south of exit 240 off I70.  In addition to the lot in front of this building, we will be parking cars on the old track adjacent to the building.  Volunteers will direct you to this area.

in the downtown area

at the Clear Creek Rec Ctr baseball fields:  off I70W, exit 241B....circle to the right going over the highway and turn right onto CR314 at the stop sign.  Off I70E, exist 241A, at stop sign turn right.  Volunteers will direct you to parking area.

 Please do not park in the Forest Service parking lot, vehicles parked here will be towed. 

 Parking in Georgetown is available only at Georgetown Lake near the start.  Exit 228 off I70, go south to the round about and go left on Argentine.  Lot is down on the right.  If you arrive after 6:45 am, anticipate parking at least 1/2 mile from the starting line.  At 7:00 am, one hour before the race start, no one will be allowed to turn east down the service road to the starting line.  Arrive early!

Parking in Evergreen is available at Clear Creek Middle/High School:  off I70W, exit 248 Beaver Brook/Floyd Hill.  Turn right at the top of the ramp and an immediate left onto US Hwy 40W.  At the top of the hill turn left at the stop sign and go over the highway.  Turn left at stop sign onto Beaver Brook Canyon Rd.  Go .2 mi and turn left into school drive.  Off I70E, exit 247.  At top of ramp, turn right and left at stop sign.  Go .2 mi and turn left into school drive.

PACKET PICK UP:  Athletes have 3 opportunities to pick up their bibs.  All bibs will be at all pick ups until the racer claims it. 

  1. Pick up at Runner's Roost Denver on Saturday August 2nd between 10:00am - 5:00pm or Sunday August 3rd etween 11:00 and 4 pm ( 1685 S. Colorado Blvd., Ste J  Denver, CO  80222
  2. Pick up at the Buffalo Restaurant and Bar in Idaho Springs on Friday, August 9th between 11:00 am and 8:00 pm
  3. Pick up at the Start Line in Georgetown on race morning between 6:00 am and 7:00 am

RACE DAY REGISTRATION:  FOR 2014, Stay Tuned....We will update on whether or not there will be race day registrations.

 GEAR CHECK:  All clothing and warm-up gear checked in with our staff in Georgetown will be transported from the start line to Clear Creek football field in Idaho Springs by 9:30 am.  Items left along the course or at the start that are NOT checked in with our staff, will be donated to charity.  We encourage you to wear items that can be donated to charity.  Bags will be provided at the start line, however we encourage you to bring your own bag it will make it easier to find it at the finish.  All bags will be placed in the stands at the field.  If you forget your bag please email info@gtishalf.org to reclaim it.  We will donate all items not claimed after one week.

AID STATIONS:  There are aid stations at mile markers:  3, 6, 8, 10 and 12.  

ALTITUDE AND WEATHER:  The elevation at the start is 8,500 feet, and gradually arrives at 7,500 feet at the finish.  Temperatures in the early morning at this elevation can be 50°, and can reach 85°  by the finish.  While conditions are usually optimal at this time of year, athletes should always be prepared for adverse weather because the race is run in a mountainous location. 

TIMING TAG INSTRUCTIONS:  This race will be timed using an electronic timing chip.  You must wear the timing tag for the duration of the race to receive full race results.  The timing chip is attached to your bib, so please do not fold your bib or place a magnet on your bib it will render the chip useless.  There is a $10 replacement fee for all lost or damaged chips.  Once the race is over you may keep the bib and chip but do not stand next to the finish line because it will keep setting off the timing mat.

T-SHIRTS, GOODIE BAGS, AND AWARDS:  Finisher short sleeve Tech T-Shirts will be given out at the conclusion of your race, at the post race celebration in the Clear Creek football field.  E-goody bags will be emailed to all registrants.  Our unique Gold Pan Trophies will be presented at the awards ceremony to the following age groups:  Top 3 Male and Female in ages 19/under, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-59, and 70+.

FINISHER MEDALS:  Finisher medals can be prepurchased and will be available to those who have prepurchased them at the post race party.  There is a possiblity that additional medals will be available for purchase on the field also.  Medals will be presented to the runner who purchased it from the tee shirt tent on the football field, post race.
