DATE & TIME: The race will be held on August 10, 2013 so mark your calendars. Start time is 8:00 am sharp!
LOCATION: Race start is in Georgetown, next to Georgetown Lake on the frontage road. The race finishes in Idaho Springs at 12th and Miner St. The post race celebration is in Clear Creek football field in Idaho Spings, there are a number of exits along I-70 where your fans can view the race.
BUS TRANSPORTATION: We strongly encourage all athletes to ride the free bus from Idaho Springs to Georgetown. Arrive early, and expect traffic congestion. Buses will start running at 5:30 am. Board the bus at the Forest Service building next to Clear Creek Administration Building. The last bus will leave at 6:45 am. If you miss the bus, your alternative is to drive to Georgetown. Transportation is not provided back to Georgetown after the race.
PARKING: Parking in Idaho Springs is available at Clear Creek School Distictict Adminstration Building just south of exit 240 off of I-70, in the downtown area, and the town parking lots between 15th/16th and Idaho St. Please look for parking attendants when you exit at the Mt. Evans exit, exit #240. Please do not park in the Forest Service parking lot, vehicles parked here will be towed. Parking in Georgetown is available only at Georgetown Lake near the start. Please look for parking attendants when you exit the freeway in Georgetown. If you arrive after 6:45 am, anticipate parking at least 1/2 mile from the starting line. At 7:00 am, one hour before the race start, no one will be allowed to turn east down the service road to the starting line. Arrive early!
PACKET PICK UP: Athletes are required to choose 1 of the following 3 locations to pick up your bib number that contains your timing chip:
- Pick up at Runner's Roost Denver on Saturday August 3rd between 10:00am - 5:00pm or Sunday August 4th between 11:00 and 4 pm
- Pick up at the Buffalo Restaurant and Bar in Idaho Springs on Friday, August 10th between 11:00 am and 8:00 pm
- Pick up at the Start Line in Georgetown on race morning between 6:00 am and 7:00 am
RACE DAY REGISTRATION: FOR 2013, THERE WILL BE NO RACE DAY REGISTRATIONS.
GEAR CHECK: All clothing and warm-up gear will be transported from the start line to Clear Creek football field in Idaho Springs by 9:30 am. We encourage you to wear items that can be donated to charity. Bags will be provided at the start line, however we encourage you to bring your own bag it make it easier to find it at the finish. All bags will be placed in the stands at the field. If you forget your bag please email info@gtishalf.org to reclaim it. We will donate all items not claimed after one week.
AID STATIONS: There are aid stations at mile markers: 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 and 12. CytoMax will be provided at all aid stations.
ALTITUDE AND WEATHER: The elevation at the start is 8,500 feet, and gradually arrives at 7,500 feet at the finish. Temperatures in the early morning at this elevation can be 50°, and can reach 85° by the finish. While conditions are usually optimal at this time of year, athletes should always be prepared for adverse weather because the race is run in a mountainous location.
TIMING TAG INSTRUCTIONS: This race will be timed using an electronic timing chip. You must wear the timing tag for the duration of the race to receive full race results. The timing chip is attached to your bib, so please do not fold your bib or place a magnet on your bib it will render the chip useless. There is a $10 replacement fee for all lost or damaged chips. Once the race is over you may keep the bib and chip but do not stand next to the finish line because it will keep setting off the timing mat.
T-SHIRTS, GOODIE BAGS, AND AWARDS: Finisher cotton T-Shirts and goodie bags will be given out at the conclusion of your race, at the post race celebration in the Clear Creek football field. Our unique Gold Pan Trophies will be presented at the awards ceremony to the following age groups: Top 3 Male and Female in ages 19/under, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-59, and 70+.
TECH T-SHIRTS, AND FINISHER MEDALS: Racers can upgrade to a tech tee shirt, rather than cotton, on the registration page. Finisher medals can also be prepurchased. Both items will be presented to the runner from the tee shirt tent on the football field, post race.
